Shiba Scout Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill organization dedicated to the rescue, training and rehoming of Shiba Inus and Shiba Inu mixes. We do not have a shelter or facility that can be visited by the public. Rather, all of our dogs are taken care of in Foster Homes. We are primarily located in Northern Colorado, however we do have Foster Homes throughout the Denver metro area.
We have received our rescue license under PACFA (Pet Animal Care Facilities Act) and are listed as a non-profit through the Colorado Secretary of State. We are also a member with All Breed Rescue Network and are umbrellaed under their 501(c)3 and liability insurance.

What's New for Shiba Scout Rescue!

WE NEED FOSTER HOMES AND DONATIONS!
Shiba Scout Rescue is in need for several foster homes and donations towards medical care for some of our incoming dogs! The dogs pictured below are on our waiting list for a place in our rescue or are already in rescue but need a foster home to go to. Please visit our Foster A Dog page for some of their stories and the requirements to becoming a foster parent..
We also are in need of the following supplies in the form of donations:
- 30 inch or 36 inch wire or plastic crates
- Senior Avoderm, Blue Buffalo, Wellness or other Super Premium food
- Blankets, towels or dog beds
- Leashes (4 or 6 foot Nylon, no retractable leashes please)
- Collars, harnesses and ID tags
- Toys and healthy treats
- Gift cards to PetSmart/Petco/Poudre Feed Supply Store
- Paper towels and cleaner (Nature's Miracle/Simple Solution)
- Printer paper and both black and color ink for a Canon printer
- And of course the almighty dollar for veterinary expenses and gas
If you can foster a Shiba, even for a couple of weeks, it would be a tremendous help!

What we do
Shiba Scout Rescue takes in Shiba Inus from animal shelters statewide, as well as from people who can no longer keep their beloved friend. This way we relieve the shelter load and we are able to commit to the individualized attention of the breed and to each dog that comes through our doors. While awaiting adoption, our Shibas are accessed with men, women, children, other dogs, cats, and public situations such as going to the dog park or into a retail petstore. This way we know exactly what to look for when finding the right permanent home for each dog.
Every dog adopted out receives:
- Spay or neuter surgery
- Deworming
- Preliminary vaccinations
- Microchip registered in the rescue's name
- A 6 week professional training course at a local approved location or a private individual session with our director, Beki Myers, on dogs under the age of 7 years (type and amount of training may vary per dog)
- Dental cleaning on dogs 7 years of age or older if needed
All potential owners must agree to at least one home-visit prior to adoption and agrees to complete all training recommended for the Shiba Inu that is adopted from the rescue.
Kenji is the very handsome 5 year old Red Shiba Inu that was adopted in the fall of 2010 after being surrendered by his owner. Shiba Inus are known for looking like a fox based on this popular rustic red coloring. There are 4 main Shiba Inu colors: Red, Sesame (red coloring with black tipped hairs evenly throughout the body), Black and Tan, and Cream.

Although they look like cute little baby foxes, Shiba Inus are not meant for everyone. One should always fully research any breed before making such a life long commitment.
